Every business is unique and different. Your business may value self-reliance over speed, or appreciate on-line instructions versus talking to a customer care representative. One of the most important aspects of choosing an accounting system for your business is determining the right mix of price, product functionality, additional features, customer service, and security.
The five statements below may help you determine if your business and Cougar Mountain Software are a good fit. How do these statements align with your thoughts?
1. My accounting system is only about paying bills and getting paid.
Denali is a comprehensive accounting system that allows business owners to make decisions, increase profits, budget for sales and staff resources, automate business processes, and have confidence that the books are right. If all you want is lightweight, window-dressing accounting, we’re probably not a good fit for you.
2. I love spreadsheets and I am never going to rely on anything else.
The sad truth is that spreadsheets are risky business and cause organizations to make serious mistakes that cost them real dollars. Don’t believe us? Read this: 3 Reasons Spreadsheets and Financials Don’t Mix.
There is a time and place for spreadsheets. If you believe it’s the accounting system for your business then we’re probably not a good fit for you.
3. Price is the only thing that matters when I make decisions.
The value of an accounting system is realized in a number of different ways. With a good accounting system, your business can eliminate countless hours of redundant and unnecessary business processes. For example, moving data into spreadsheets, running error prone reports, fixing data that is wrong, and guessing at reorder times or even who to order from can all be managed within an accounting system. If price is the only consideration for making the decision, you may end up with an accounting system that still makes you do all those tasks. If you only look at the price and not the value of the system, we’re probably not a good fit for you.
4. You do not want a relationship with your accounting software company.
Let’s face it, relationships are hard. You have to get to know someone, figure out if you like them, and even learn to trust them. Many business owners are perfectly happy with store-bought, supported from “somewhere” accounting software. They don’t want people who know their name or anything about their business. If that’s you, we’re probably not a good fit for you.
5. I like the ability to go into my accounting system and make changes to “clean up” entries without leaving a trace. I know my staff does it all the time. I don’t want to be able to segregate duties, install internal controls about who can and cannot access options or information, or have pesky audit trails telling me who changed what in my accounting system.
An accounting system should provide you security and peace of mind that your financial information is safe. If that isn’t important to you, then we definitely are not a good fit for you.
We hope that reading these 5 points will save you, and us, a lot of time. There is no sense in beating around the bush: we make comprehensive, solid, secure, and valuable accounting software.
