Cougar Mountain Software is located in Boise, ID, one of the most desirable places to live in the United States. With a population of around 210,000 it’s in a sweet spot of not too big and not too small. Boise has a major university and many smaller and growing educational institutions, affordable housing, quality healthcare, highly-ranked public education, a sizable airport, and a great culture and quality of life. Idaho is a national technology leader, recently ranking number one per capita in the nation for patents issued to state residents. Boise is a vibrant and growing tech-centric city without the crowds, congestion, and high cost of living. If you are looking for a high tech community that enjoys the pursuit of both professional and recreational excellence, it can be found here.
Here are some of the ways our Cougar Mountain employees enjoy life in Idaho.
Something new on the Horizon, Spring 2016
Recently we have began to undertake a new and exciting avenue with our interview process here at Cougar. Because we care about our clients and their journey into using our software, we are going to be filming numerous engaging video interviews to tell their stories so we can share them with everyone. Our first interview was conducted this spring with Mary, you can watch that video here. Stay tuned to see what our other clients have to say in the near future!

Movember Prostate Cancer Awareness, November 2015
From November 1st to November 30th 2015 some of our staff participated in the annual Movember (also known as No-Shave November) awareness event. The goal of Movember is to “change the face of men’s health” by not shaving for a full month. By encouraging men to become involved, Movember increases early cancer detection, diagnosis and effective treatments, and aims to reduce the number of preventable deaths due to cancer. The first image shows our participating group at the beginning of the month before growing out their facial hair, and the second image proudly shows their mustaches at month’s end. We at Cougar Mountain Software care about the health of our staff and our community and are happy to see people participate in raising cancer awareness. Feel free to grab your razors now men! Only if you want to of course… it is winter, and we do live in Idaho after all.
Our Halloween Costume Contest and Chili Cook-off Event, October 2015
We held our annual Costume Halloween Contest andChili Cook-off Event on the same day this year, so we got to dress up and taste some pretty amazing chili at the same time. As with tradition, we voted for first and second place winners per event, awarding prizes and prestige. This years costume contest winners were Laurel Hoops from Operations and her great dane Java! Laurel dressed up as a ballerina, and her side kick Java was a marathon runner. Don’t you like Java’s fancy pink shorts? We loved her costume! For the chili cook-off contest, this years winners were Ryan Benoit from sales and Stephanie Rasmussen from customer support. They can sure cook!
Welcoming a new addition to the Barkman Family, September 2015
Our Crystal Reports Specialist Steven Barkman became a new grandpa this week as he welcomed his new granddaughter Katherine. Katherine was born just a day shy of October 1st, and was a healthy 7 pounds and 8 ounces. We wish to welcome little Katherine to the world and to congratulate Steven and his family in this joyous moment!
Sales Fall BBQ and Barbara’s Retirement Celebration, September 2015
The Sales team held it’s fall BBQ mid September where we all gathered to enjoy some great grilled goodies! The BBQ was also a perfect time to celebrate Barbaras Knuff’s retirement party. Barbara has been the Client Lead Developer here at Cougar Mountain Software for 15 years. After she retires, Barbara has many fun filled plans ahead of her including: volunteer work at her granddaughter’s charter school, tutoring her granddaughter, plans to start a new charter school, and various projects in her home and garden. Looks like she has some wonderful golden years ahead her! From all of us here at Cougar Mountain Software, we want to say “Thank you for your hard work Barbara- we wish you the all best!”
Helping out at the Idaho Food Bank, August 1st, 2015
We had another opportunity to serve our community this month when we went to the Idaho Food Bank. Cougar Mountain employees and a small group from a local church worked together to help bag, box and palletize a total of 1,750 pounds of cereal in 90 minutes. What an amazing feeling to see what a group can do, be it big or small, every effort leads to a positive impact on other people’s lives.
Company Summer BBQ, July 2015
We held our annual family company BBQ this summer- we were joined by the happy faces and hungry tummies of our friends and family. Once again in true Cougar Mountain fashion, the food did not disappoint! Everyone pitched in and brought delicious dishes to share with one another. We enjoyed the nice weather in our front lawn as the kids played with chalk and drew some great masterpieces on the front sidewalks. Another successful event accomplished!
Bookie Brunch, April 2015
This month we had a fun book themed potluck. Wonderfully delicious meals were created after popular book themes. Some that stood out were The Hungry Caterpillar and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. One of our favorites was a dish by Ginnie, titled Fried Green Tomatoes because… “the secret’s in the sauce!”
Giving Back on Easter. April 2015
Easter is such a special time of the year, and this Spring Cougar Mountain Software worked with the Reiki Energy Healing Center. Together, we delivered 35 fun filled Easter Baskets for the displaced children at the City Lights Homeless Shelter. Just another way we like to give back to our community that gives so much to us in return.
Getting Spooky in October, 2014
As always, we can’t resist an occasion to show off our creativity and dress up for Halloween. Here are some of our featured ghouls from our latest Halloween Costume party! I have to say, we have some very fun people working here.
Silent Auction September 8, 2014

Our judges were Ann Giesel, Troy Kesner, Munib Selimovic, Kevin Hogan, and Shane Ball. We can’t wait to see what everyone brings to our judges next time!
Cougar Mountain Software at The Idaho Foodbank in April 2014
Cougar Mountain Software gave it’s employees and families the opportunity to volunteer at The Idaho Foodbank on Saturday, April 5, 2013.
The sentiments of those who participated was that there is nothing like the feeling you get when you give your time for something as worthy as helping the hungry. There was no doubt that Cougar Mountain Software employees and family members got more out of the experience than The Idaho Foodbank got from their time.
Halloween 2013 at Cougar Mountain Software
The Cougar Mountain Software team enjoys the chance to relax and share a few laughs. Halloween is one of the many times of the year when we have a little fun at the office and show off our “creative” side with unique costumes.
Troy Kesner, Product Development Coordinator
“With five great ski areas within a 3 hour drive, and only 6 hours to Salt Lake City, we have some of the best powder in the world. It is also ideal for motorcycle riding with hundreds of miles of beautiful roads through mountain and desert scenery.”
Laurel Hoops, Administrative Assistant
“Running is a great way to stay active and enjoy an afternoon to yourself or with friends. Whether I’m training for a flat marathon through the streets of Boise, or a challenging ultra-marathon in the foothills, there’s nothing quite like a good run.”
Kevin Winston, Senior Systems Trainer
“My wife and I started cruising 20 years ago. We went to Alaska with Rebecca’s parents for a Christmas present. The length was 10 days. A wonderful first cruise in a small ship that opened our eyes to what vacations should be all about: relaxing! We decided that cruise we would start saving up money to go on cruises as much as we could afford. Our next one was down the coast of the Mexican Riviera, which was only 7 days. Affordable yes; but too short of time. We now look for longer trips and choose them. We especially like “Sea Days” for it keeps the cost down and makes the trip much more relaxed.”
Chuck Gossett, CEO
“Our family and friends have embraced the many whitewater river running activities available from our capitol city. Multiple choices of technically diverse river options are available spanning evenings after work, to Idaho wilderness multi-day trips. This is a superb opportunity for relationships of family and friends to grow stronger and to enjoy natures wonder.”
Cheri Severson, Technical Support Analyst
“I direct a youth puppet team at Kuna Nazarene Church. The Boise Rescue Mission provides Christmas dinners for those in need and for the past 5 years, we have volunteered at the Boise Rescue Mission during their Christmas dinners. Our puppet team provides entertainment and a segue into the service prior to each session’s meals. It is a humbling and exciting experience to be able to give in such a fun way. Boise offers a variety of opportunities to volunteer and give to others.”
