Popular Add-ons for DENALI Business Accounting Software

Cougar Mountain offers many additional add-ons to extend the functionality and features of the software.

Questions -- Business

Question: How do you make tax adjustments in DENALI?

Answer: Businesses need to process End-of-Year (EOY) adjustments to finalize General Ledger activity for tax reporting and final financial statements. You can make several different adjustments depending on your business and industry: amortization, depreciation, fringe benefits, inventory adjustments, write-offs, etc. You’ll perform most adjustments directly in the General Ledger module through journal entries, typically dated December 31.The business owner, CEO, CFO, Comptroller, etc., works with an accountant, lawyer, banker, etc., to create the adjusting entries. If the adjustment deals with a specific entity in the accounting system, such as customer write-offs (bad debt) or inventory quantities (shrinkage), you’ll perform the adjustments in the module that controls the activity, which then updates General Ledger.

For example, if you want to create a year-end adjusting journal entry for depreciation, you would create a journal entry that debits Depreciation Expense on one line of the grid and credits Accumulated Depreciation on the next line.

If you need to make an adjusting entry due to shrinkage, you would use the Adjust Stock Quantities window in Inventory and create a type "2” transaction to subtract the necessary quantity from inventory.

Question: We have a grant with the FNSB and we have been producing reports out of excel for the reporting portion of the grant.  The Borough would now like us to be able to produce fund accounting reports and we do currently have Fund Revenue Center CMS Professional 14.1.  I had planned to produce reports for the Borough based on expenses but they have requested the below and I have some questions on how to provide these reports as outlined by the Borough and if I have to setup the checking account on a fund basis will I be able to reconcile the account as a whole or am I going to need to open a new checking account?

"Typically, grantees submit system generated quarterly transaction reports in both of these formats: (1) check number order; (2) expenditure account order (with individual accounts totaled if possible).  Providing both formats enables us to efficiently reconcile all charges."

Question: Will Cougar Mountain grow with my company?

Answer: One of the bigger strengths of Cougar Mountain's DENALI business software is its growth potential.
  • Each module is modularized - each can stand on its own on a single PC. So a small company may find they don't need all of the available accounting modules. When they do need them, each can be added seamlessly into the application.
  • The network configuration can be on a single machine, or spread out over many. DENALI will actually operate fastest when it is configured in its native client / server configuration. For top performance you can configure the software on 3 machines; one for the client, one for the business application, and one for the database.
  • The database is robust enough to handle almost unlimited amounts of data. Millions of inventory items. Millions of transactions.

Question: Where can I find out more information about your Business Accounting Software?

Answer: The best place to learn more is to first visit the business accounting software page. The page gives an overview of what you can expect.

If you have more questions, I'd recommend you do one of the following:
  • Call one of the Sales Associates and ask as many questions as you need: (800) 390-7073
  • Request an online demonstration. You can get a guided tour, or you can go thru it on your own. I'd recommend the guided tour, as it will get you thru it quick and show you the important areas.
